About Argyll Walks
Gerena Sumen had been working happily for VisitScotland for 5 years in Ardgartan and Tarbet, Argyll & Bute tourism information centres describing herself as a “woman on a mission” to help visitors experience Scotland and immerse themselves in the history and culture. Gerena’s office in Tarbet, Loch Lomond was hit by a tree, and it was decided that no repairs were to be done. She was made redundant and had to think again about what to do.
Luss Estates had a vacancy for a retail assistant in the Clan Shop in Luss. Gerena worked there for two years but had always wanted to have her own business. This provided the push she needed to think of starting her own guided walking tours in Luss and Helensburgh. Most of the overseas visitors were very interested in their Scottish family history. So, she would chat about Luss and Loch Lomond history of the clans, Colquhoun, MacGregor, and MacFarlane to everyone that would listen.
Argyll Walks is a Scottish woman led business based in Argyllshire specialising in guided day walks. Gerena is an experienced walk leader with over 20 years of leading small groups all over Scotland. She is especially passionate about inspiring groups, couples, and solo walkers to discover hidden gems and local beauty spots in Argyll, Loch Lomond and Cowal to spend time in nature. She is an active member of Scot Ways in surveying long distance trails, to have a greater access to the great outdoors since 2023. Argyll Walks is also a partner with VisitScotland and John Muir Way to promote guided walking holidays in Loch Lomond, Luss, Helensburgh, Balloch, Cowal Peninsular and Argyll & Bute area and Scotland’s central belt.
